Andrea Conroy

Andrea Conroy is a PhD Candidate at Sandra A. Rotman Laboratories, McLaughlin Rotman Centre for Global Health within the Translational Research Pillar.

Andrea's research is focused on the pathophysiology of severe malarial syndromes. At a basic level, she examines how two components of the immune system may interact early in malaria infection to drive a robust and deleterious response to the malaria parasite. She also looks further downstream to determine whether there are patterns of host proteins present in the blood that can identify pregnant women and children at risk of developing severe disease. The ultimate goal is to be able to identify people at risk of developing severe disease and treat them with appropriate immunotherapy.
