A Survey of South-North Health Biotech Collaboration
We have recently published a survey of South-North health biotech collaboration. While South-North collaborations among firms have the potential to help mitigate the traditionally ‘high cost/high risk’ nature of the health biotechnology sector and facilitate market access, little is known about the extent to which firms are engaging in such partnerships, and who, more specifically, is taking part. This article – based on the survey responses of 288 health biotech firms from ‘the South’ – begins to explore some of the unknowns surrounding international collaboration in health biotech by examining the levels at which firms from developing and developed countries engage one another in collaborative activities, and the geographical spread of these ties. It is expected that these findings can be of use to firms and research groups interested in reaching out globally, but also to policy makers engaged in promoting innovation and international affairs.
