Plasmodium falciparum malaria is a major cause of global morbidity and mortality, responsible for nearly half a billion cases and more than 1 million deaths annually. A child is killed by malaria every 30 seconds around the clock.
Ziyue's research focuses on (1) the role of innate immunity in malaria pathogenesis; (2) the effect of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor γ (PPAR γ) agonist in mice infected with rodent malaria and the development of a therapeutic intervention to improve outcome in malaria infection.
